Assets Real Estate Portland & Heywood is a locally owned and operated family business which dates back to the late 60’s. Michelle Hughes who is still a director today worked for the founder of Hedditch Real Estate Reg Hedditch in the early beginnings working her way up the ranks to later become a director. The business originated in Heywood but with the growing demand Reg opened up another office in Portland in the early 80’s at 137 Percy Street, he then outgrew that office and purchased 96 Percy Street where the business still operates today.
In the early 90’s the business changed names to Hedditch First National, where Reg being one of the founding members of the First National Group joined the franchise. Reg passed away in 2004 and 6 of his employees brought the business from the family and started another era of the business. The business was then changed to Rescom Property and Finance and stayed with that franchise until 2011 when the business left the Rescom Franchise and became Assets Real Estate. One by one the original directors moved on or retired, Michelle is the only remaining Director of that Company. Michelle was joined in 2015 by Katrina and Ebony and then in 2017 by Ben and in 2020 by Josh who also became directors of the company turning it into a family run and operated business.
Together, they are committed to providing the best possible service to all their valued clients. Two of the Directors are fully licenced agents therefore supporting our ability to retain a secure and successive agency for many future years. We have on site offices in 2 locations. Our main office is situated in the middle of the busy main shopping precinct in Portland and our branch office is the only Real Estate agency in Heywood.

Our busy office has a full time office manager to oversee all departments and to help with all the ongoing daily tasks including Trust accounting, invoices, staff management & support . We also have full time receptionists in both offices to greet and help everyone that walks through our doors, or phones in for assistance. First point of contact is very important to us and we take pride that our staff offer friendly and helpful advice at all times.
How we assist in the community?
At Assets we actively give back to the community, not only by the way of fiscal donations but also in kind, support and partnerships within “not for profit” organizations, education and business sectors. This includes, but is not limited to, youth at risk mentoring, meals on wheels, and assisting other charitable organizations by conducting auctioneer services and volunteering personal time on advisory committees etc.
We encourage school based work experience and have also most recently found a position as part of a disability placement.
